Anna Hapax
Anna Hapax first started making electronic music in 2023. A longtime raver who travels around the UK in search of underground techno events, she only began to make her own music after a chance encounter with a Behringer TD-3 at her job in a second hand electronics store – it was this physical element of sound creation that had been lacking from earlier forays into software DAWS.
Her sound is influenced by 80s and 90s acid and electro, with samples chopped and torn from archival footage and retro video games.
Soon her bedroom jams progressed into live hardware performances, attending electronic open-mic nights in her hometown of Stoke and going on to play in venues around the Midlands.
Her live setup usually consists of two Korg Electribes – the EMX-1 and ESX-1 for the beats, melodies and samples – and the TD-3 bringing the acid riffs. Her home studio has since expanded to include a Microkorg, Roland TR8S and SH01A, and a handful of FX pedals.
With her DAWless setup Anna seeks to bring back some of the original DIY spirit of electronic music directly inspired by her experiences on and off the dancefloor.
